    Frequently Asked Questions

Pelvic health physiotherapy is a specialised branch of physiotherapy focusing on assessing and treating conditions affecting the pelvic region. These include issues with the pelvic floor and abdominal muscles, incontinence, bladder urgency, pelvic pain, prolapse and bowel concerns. Our goal is to empower women in all stages of their life to move and engage in life without shame, discomfort or pain which often coexist with pelvic health concerns.

Anyone experiencing pelvic health issues can benefit from Pelvic Health Physiotherapy. Women often encounter pelvic floor changes and dysfunction during the four major hormonal shifts in their lives: menstruation, pregnancy, postpartum, and menopause. Getting your pelvic floor assessed during these stages can help identify any problems or allow you to discuss preventative measures.

During your first (initial) appointment, we will discuss your:

    • Medical history
    • Obstetrics history
    • Bladder function
    • Bowel function
    • Sexual function
    • Physical activity levels
    • Stress levels in your life
    • Sleep quality
    • Goals

Then we will perform an assessment that may include evaluating:

    • Pelvic floor muscles
    • Abdominal function
    • Mobility and strength of your hips and lower limb
    • Breathing dynamics
    • Thoracic mobility
    • Gait analysis

We will then educate you on your condition, explaining the contributing factors based on your history and assessment findings. Finally, we will discuss a treatment plan to best manage your symptoms.

The number of sessions varies based on your individual needs and the complexity of your condition. We will assess your progress regularly and adjust your treatment plan as needed.

No you do not need a referral to see our Pelvic Health Physiotherapist.
